Lunch will be provided

Join us for a dynamic discussion around a topic that forms the bedrock of every security program: Identity and Access Management.

Panelists and Industry Experts:

Kenny Barnt – Michigan State University

Kenny is the manager of the Identity & Access Management Platforms team at MSU. In his 20+ year career working in IT, he's worn many different hats supporting individual consumers up to large multi-site enterprises and at least dabbling in just about every area of IT. Prior to his current role, Kenny was an F5 BIG-IP Engineer at MSU and before that at CMU where he was intimately involved in the authentication aspects of IAM. His team will be a key part of MSU's newly-started, multi-year IAM Modernization Program, which will ensure the technologies and processes around IAM can meet the needs of our organization in a sustainable, supportable way and provide a foundation to better adapt to changing needs into the future.

Rebecca Keenan - Jackson

Rebecca is Director, Threat Intelligence, and Vulnerability Management and Identity and Access Management Operations at Jackson Financial Inc. Prior to joining Jackson she began her career managing operational risk at a private hospitality real estate investment trust.  In her 8 years at Jackson Rebecca created the BE SAFE customer cybersecurity awareness program, led the Business Information Security Office, and launched automated patching. She is currently reinvigorating the ethical hacking team to manage Jackson’s attack surface and improving associate experience with access management.

Rex Menold - Deputy CSO, State of MI

Rex is an accomplished IT leader with more than 20 years experience including oversight of cybersecurity, enterprise services, and application support.  Prior to his current role, Rex served as Director of Enterprise Information, Content and Identity Management where he was responsible for the supporting MILogin, the State of MI identity management platform supporting 200,000 logins per day and serving Michigan's ten-million citizens.

Girish Verma - Deloitte

Girish is a cyber leader at Deloitte Government and Public Services, with over 25 years of experience in leading digital transformations in commercial and state government sectors. His experience is at the intersection of digital identity, fraud analytics and secure transaction digitization. He has partnered with multiple states to establish and expand award winning cyber digital identity programs that provide residents with secure access to digital government services, with real time fraud analytics, increasingly important in a post pandemic age. Following recent advances in digital wallets and decentralized identities, he has setup roadmaps for states to use citizen digital wallets to enable secure, user owned, passwordless identities which increase trust in digital interactions, reduce transactional fraud, and enable trust interoperability across public private partnerships.

Mitch Spaulding - Okta

Mitch is a Senior Solutions Engineer at Okta focused on driving identity modernization efforts for State and Local Government entities as well as Education institutions. Mitch has spent the better half of a decade working in the identity space designing and implementing solutions to assist organizations in securing their digital identities and automating identity management processes. In addition to his work at Okta, Mitch is a dedicated member of the cybersecurity community. He volunteers his time to organize the local BSides Columbus user conference, held in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. In his spare time, Mitch enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast and can often be found hiking, scuba diving, or traveling in his free time. Mitch is also a passionate Columbus Blue Jackets hockey fan despite the team consistently finishing last in the NHL.

"I love the peer groups that CAITC has established. I love that I can connect, network, and learn from local IT professionals in my field. I also appreciate connecting with peer groups that I don’t always identify with and learn about opportunities to support and advocate for others. Thank you CAITC for building this community, both in person and virtually!"

Brittni Schumacher
Manager
Jackson Enterprise Technology

"As a founding member of the Capital Area IT Council, our small IT firm has benefitted immensely from our continued participation in the CAITC. I have personally benefitted from CAITC-sponsored training programs, such as the IT Project Management course that I attended, which in turn has helped me to better manage clients/projects and generate new business for my company, while also creating new opportunities to grow professionally."
